During everyday life, women are constantly judged in public and private settings. They are compared and contrasted by their physical appearances, personal interests, and their outward behavior towards others. Thus, affecting how they perceive their own value and of those surrounding them. Similarly, in a market, the flesh of a silenced animal is hung or displayed within a case. It's bought based on its characteristics and qualities, and with its monetary value being decided upon by the type of meat, cut, and how fresh the kill. Through exploring the themes of femininity, sexuality, and psychological states, the artists create coquettish and unsettling depictions of the female experience within “La Carniceria.”
